About Fidya

Everything you need to know before you give.

What is it?

Fidya is paid by people for whom fasting has become permanently impossible, old age, chronic illness with no recovery prospect, or terminal conditions. For each missed day, you feed one needy person two average meals.

If recovery is possible (e.g. travel, temporary illness, pregnancy), fasts must be made up later instead, Fidya does not apply.

Who pays it?

The permanently ill, the very elderly who cannot fast, and those with chronic conditions where fasting causes lasting harm. A doctor's confirmation is recommended for borderline cases.

When is it due?

Pay during or after Ramadan, as soon as you confirm fasting won't be possible. Many pay all 30 days at once before Ramadan begins.

How much?

Approximately £5 per missed day in the UK (covers two average meals). For 30 days: £150. Pay per day or in a lump sum, your choice.

How your gift is distributed

Each £5 day of Fidya is converted into two cooked meals delivered to a verified needy household in Monuhorpur, matching the Qur'anic instruction to feed a poor person.

  • 1 day = 2 meals for one household.
  • 30 days = full Ramadan covered, feeding 30 different families.
  • Distributed across the month so help spreads, not lump-sum.

How we deliver

Fidya is paid out as fresh-cooked meals through our madrasa kitchen during Ramadan, the timing of the scriptural duty. Pay any time before or during the month and we space distribution across the 30 days.

Confirmation by email when distribution is complete; households are anonymised in the report.

Your impact

Where your gift lands

Your Fidya feeds students, orphans, and poor neighbours of the madrasa. We distribute meals in Monuhorpur, approximately one meal per pound of Fidya, and send confirmation once distribution is complete.

Frequently asked questions

How much is Fidya per day?

Approximately £5 in the UK, covering two average meals for one needy person. The exact amount tracks the cost of feeding someone two meals where the donor lives.

Can I pay Fidya for a deceased relative?

Yes. If a relative died with missed fasts they couldn't make up, you can pay Fidya on their behalf.

What's the difference between Fidya and Kaffarah?

Fidya is for genuinely unavoidable misses (chronic illness, old age). Kaffarah is for deliberately broken fasts, much more severe (60 consecutive fasts or feeding 60 people).

Broke a fast intentionally? That requires Kaffarah, not Fidya.
