Eid al-Fitr charity

Fitrana, purify your fast, feed your neighbour

Fitrana (Zakat al-Fitr) is a small obligatory charity paid by every Muslim before Eid prayer. It feeds the poor so they can join Eid with food on the table — a voluntary act of charity that completes the spirit of Ramadan.

About Fitrana (Zakat al-Fitr)

Everything you need to know before you give.

What is it?

Fitrana (also called Zakat al-Fitr or Sadaqat al-Fitr) is an obligatory charity paid at the end of Ramadan, before Eid prayer. It's the equivalent of approximately 2.5kg of staple food (or its cash value) per person in the household.

The Prophet ﷺ said it was prescribed “to purify the faster from idle talk and obscenity, and to feed the poor”. (Abu Dawud)

Who pays it?

Every Muslim, man, woman and child, who has more than a day's food on Eid morning. Heads of household pay on behalf of dependants (spouse, children, parents in their care).

When is it due?

Any time during Ramadan, but it must be paid before Eid prayer. Paying earlier ensures the food reaches recipients in time for Eid celebrations.

How much?

Approximately £5 per person (UK). Confirmed annually by major Islamic councils. £20 covers a family of four.

How your gift is distributed

Each £5 of Fitrana is the cash equivalent of 2.5kg of staple food per person. We convert it into Eid food parcels distributed before Eid prayer in Monuhorpur.

  • £5 / person · matches the UK rate set annually by major Islamic councils.
  • £20 / family of 4 · two adults + two children.
  • Parcels include rice, lentils, oil, sugar, dates, enough for an Eid celebration meal.

How we deliver

Pay early: our cut-off is 24 hours before Eid prayer so parcels can be assembled and delivered overnight. Pay later and we distribute as Sadaqah instead, per the classical rule.

Distribution confirmed by email within 48 hours of Eid; reaches verified needy households across Monuhorpur and surrounding villages.

Your impact

Where your gift lands

Your Fitrana is converted into food parcels and distributed in Monuhorpur before Eid prayer, so the poor can wake up to a celebratory meal too. We confirm distribution by email after Eid.

Frequently asked questions

Do I pay Fitrana for my children?

Yes. The head of the household pays on behalf of every dependant, spouse, children, and any other person under their care.

Is Fitrana the same as Zakat?

No. Zakat is on accumulated wealth (paid annually). Fitrana is on every person (paid annually before Eid al-Fitr). Both are obligatory but they're separate duties.

What if I miss the deadline?

Pay it as soon as possible, it remains a debt on you until paid. Better late than not at all, but after Eid prayer it counts as ordinary Sadaqah, not Fitrana.

How much per person?

Approximately £5 (UK), the cash equivalent of 2.5kg of staple food. Confirmed each year by national Islamic councils. We update our rate before Ramadan.

For your annual Zakat on wealth (the 2.5%), see Zakat.
